This is targeted toward LGBT people but includes pwd's and others. Don't
know if it's local, national or world wide, but I plan to participate,

*Subject:* UWstaff-l: Day of Silence this Friday Apr. 25th!

*[image: http://www.dayofsilence.org/img/dos_b2.jpg]*

The Day of Silence is a student-led day of action when concerned students,
from middle school to college, take some form of a vow of silence to bring
attention to the name-calling, bullying and harassment -- in effect, the
silencing -- experienced by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender)
students, other minority groups, and their allies.

The Day of Silence is about
safer schools, tolerance, and positive change.

The Day of Silence is not only about protecting LGBT people, but also their
allies and people who are bullied, harassed, and even killed every day
because of their race/ethnicity, perceived nationality or origin,
disability, religion, appearance, socioeconomic status, etc.

When it all comes down to it, no matter what your beliefs are on
homosexuality, the LGBT community, or on diversity in general, no one
deserves to be harassed or killed because they are different from the
"norm".

*Day of Silence Events** (**4/25/08**)*

*Silent Lunch in the Union Skylight Lounge **12pm-1pm*

A brown bag lunch to bring together those who are participating in the day
and show others that silence is loud.

*Breaking the silence talking circle at **5pm** *(Prexy's pasture if the
weather permitting, the RRC if snowing or raining).

A community building discussion about the experience of being
silenced and/or a chance to express your feelings from participating in the
Day of Silence.

For Day of Silence buttons, stickers, not speaking cards, and more
information about this event please stop by our table in the Union
Breezeway Wed. Apr. 23-Fri. Apr. 24 from 10am-2pm. Or email
[log in to unmask] (If you didn't get a chance to make a Day of
Silence shirt, you can always wear a plain black shirt of any kind and we'll
have plenty of Day of Silence buttons available at our table in the union.)

Kendall

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.

-George Bernard Shaw 1856-1950
