hi Jennifer:
Welcome to the list.
you can pickup fiberglass push up polls that come in four foot sections on
ebay...and probably from regular radio retailers for much higher prices else
where.
At any rate, they are heavy duty, military grade fiber glass sections that
connect together into any length you like depending on how many you choose
to put together.
I can't remember the diameter off the top of my head, but it seems to me
they were at least 1 and a quarter inches if not bigger.
You would be able to put a large VHF/UHF vertical on the top, probably
something around 15 feet long, or a small beam, perhaps up to a 5 element
VHF beam or perhaps a 3 element 6 metre beam. at around 40 feet, so ten
sections, you wouldn't need to guy it if it was supported around the 15 or
20 foot height against a house.
you can buy tilt over kits from most of the major tower manufacturers and
companies along with towers that are good for tilting.
I believe you can use a typical light or medium duty tower on a tilt plate
as long as it is very well secured.
if you are near a major population area, you will find that allot of the
older hams are getting rid of their towers very cheaply due to moving into
condo's or care facilities.
You can usually get a 40 or 48 foot for next to nothing as long as you can
take it down....offer to buy a case of beer and you can probably convince
someone to take it down for you :)
