I started out totally "involved" - didn't speak words until I was 2, didn't talk in sentences until I was three. walked with walker at head start, at home I don't know what i used, but i took my first steps alone the thanksgiving i was 5. walking is not as important as it was in years gone by. in fact those of us who managed to walk and had a lot of PT, have a much higher risk for bad hips and leg pain when we get to our 30s, 40's and 50s. Of course you want him to have as many options as possible for when he's still young.

Thanks,
Tamar

Thank You so much.I am so glad to have people responding to me.It feels so good to be able to talk to people who know how this feels.I always let him know I think one day he will walk but until then we j8ust keep working on other things and getting his legs stronger. He is so thin.We are also looking into local sporting events for him.
Thank You again,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
I have cp, and am 53 years old. I have been independent my whole adult life, due in part to my parents who pushed me to do the best i could. Never let him say "I can't" Help him find other ways of doing things, but assist him to do what he really can't do. Many of us have attendants, but we still have our own apartments or homes, some have jobs, some have been, or are married. I wish my parents had had internet support when i was growing up, it might have helped my mom accept me better. I just want you to know that these things are possible.

This list is comprised of people - mostly adults, who have cp, or who love somebody who has cp, and a few professionals. There are other lists for parents of kids with cp. Feel free to ask for ideas, as this group has come up with great ideas, or just stories about our own lives.

Thanks,
Tamar

Subject: Hello

Hi my name is Jennifer and I have a 5 year old little boy named Johnathan who
has CP.I am looking for support groups and people who understand what I am
going through with him.He is im mobile and is now realizing he wants to be like
the other children and walk and play sports and this is a very tough time for
both of us.So I have been on the computer most of the day today looking for
support groups.We live in Maryland.
Thank You,
Jennifer
