I think another reason why we tend to not reach out to others in genuine 
compassion is because we're so busy attending to our own needs and putting 
ourselves and our families.  I have experienced this lack of friendliness 
firsthand, as it is difficult for me to just walk up to someone in a crowd 
and start a conversation, not knowing where each person is, or whether or 
not he/she is already engaged in one.
