Hmmm, upgrade fast so you can use the power?  Their should be a drive 
controol that is adjustable.  Try backing off the drive, rather than the 
mike.  I wonder if you could take out the finals and drive the tank circuit 
from the grid connection of one of the tube sockets?  I don't know.  backing 
down the grid drive would be the simplest.  Personally, I'd have a hard time 
keeping it down.  Oh well rules have never been my strong suit.
