Wow! I sure got a lot of feedback on that one!
Mostly just to say "thanks for posting that"
(you are welcome!). But I also got an email from
the list administrators and found out a couple
of other bits of info.

First, a correction: the listserver isn't Linux, it
IS windows.

Second, the confusion has to do with how the
internals of the email are configured. Many email
clients, such as gmail, comcast, and probably
yahoo (though yahoo had problems in the past)
do just fine, which is why all email isn't problematic.

However, Outlook, for one, does NOT do it
in a way that always works for the listserver. So
the problem isn't something you can fix on the recieving
end: whoever posts the email has to have their
email client configured correctly.

So *IF YOU USE OUTLOOK* there are some things
you can do to fix that.

1. Easiest fix: get a Gmail account. That's kind of
nice anyway, because you can keep your "celiac"
mail separate from your home mail. Gmail is
also incredibly good at filtering spam, it's free,
and you can access it from any computer when you
are on the road. I don't believe you need an "invite"
anymore to set up an account.

2. Or, send an email to the listserver that tells
it to parse your messages differently:

Send to [log in to unmask]:

SET CELIAC FULLHDR
       or
SET CELIAC SUBJECTHDR

I haven't tested this, but it should work, and if
it does, maybe the thing to do is to gently
and politely instruct people who have '=' signs
in their email how to fix this. Esp. if t hey are
posting yummy recipes!

Below is the full text of the message with more
details.

Actually, ICORS is run off of a Windows 2000 system. :-)

One of the bigger reasons for seeing the codes is being set to short
or dual header. Information is left off when that header style is
used, and non plain text formats may not be interpreted correctly by
the receiver's email system.

Someone who is finding that their email contains lots of codes may be
able to fix this by sending the following command to
[log in to unmask]:

SET CELIAC FULLHDR
       or
SET CELIAC SUBJECTHDR

SUBJECTHDR is the same as FULLHDR, with the additional benefit of
having [CELIAC] show up in every subject line -- making it easy to
filter and not have it end up in your spam folder.
