Rhonda,
Every time I read your poetry, I wish I had that gift. I've tried many
times, over the years, to write things like that but it always turns out
terrible. So thanks for sharing your gift with others.
Phil.

Subject: Favorite Things
I’ve had dozens of roses,
Some pink,
Some red,
So beautiful and wonderful to smell,
But in a few days they were crumpled and dead,
So roses aren’t one of my favorite things,
I’ve had candy, chocolate covered,
With cherries,
Nuts caramels and strawberries,
All packaged in a lovely heart box
But it only lasted a day or two,
And then I was sad,
Much heavier for all the eating,
So chocolate doesn’t make me glad
I’ve sat silently beside my husband of 23 years,
Enjoyed the comfort of his arms,
As he brushed away my tears,
Thanked God for his company when I awakened with night fears,
This is one of my favorite things,
The joy, and comfort that a love from God brings,
Better than dozens of roses,
Or mountains of chocolate delight,
I treasure the one I lie beside every night,
A whispered prayer of gratitude,
A blessing that endures
A God given partner that helps me endure,
The hard times,
The rain,
The uncertainty,
The pain,
My favorite things are all wrapped up
In a promise I made over 23 years ago,
And each day I learn to love more than I did the day before,
To forgive,
To listen,
Just to wait,
My favorite things are found in the one I call my friend,
My husband,
My mate.
