Well folks, I went and did it last night.
Used a combination of common sense and the enhanced namvigation manual available at handihams.
It's really pretty simple.

Open the radio by removing the eight cover screws from the top cover.
The cover is a tight fit so it will take a bit of effort to remove it.
Then locate the small socket near the lower lefthand corner with the rig in the normal operating position.
REmove the vgs1 from its packing. It will be in the bubble wrap inside the box.
Note that one side is smooth and the other has circuitry on it. The smooth side is the top.
Next, locate the largest and thickest rectangular pad in the small bag of foam pads packed with the vgs3.
Stick this pad to the top of the vgs1.
Now find the thickest square pad in the bag, and stick it to the bottom of the vgs1 so that it covers the circutry.
Now plug the vgs1 into the socket with the majority of the board extending to the right (toward the middle of the radio.
It will be a tight fit, and it is a small socket, so be somewhat careful. When you press down, you will feel the vgs1 push into place.
Replace the top cover, and that's all there is to it.
The rig is defaulted to automatically speak from the factory, so no programming is necessary to turn on the voice.

Hope this helps someone out there.
