Butch,

Based on what happened with my radio I'd say the firmware is already updated 
by the time you have to do the reset.  I think the reset is done just to 
clear any flags used by the software, which would basically stop any glitchy 
behavior.  While I didn't see anything unusual, I know this is a pretty 
complicated radio and problems might not show up right away, which is why I 
decided to do the full reset.  Let me know what happens with the second 
radio.
