You should be able to decrease the carrier level and this will not hurt
the rig at all.  Tubes are much more forgiving than transistors.

well,, firstly, I'm waiting for vision australia to transcribe the
manual into daisy format, so don't know if the 201 has a processor on
board.
and I too, would have thought that running your tubes at a lower voltage
would have some kind of effect on them. I'm just not sure it's a good
one. because I suspect that the tuning procedure is as much matching the
radio's impedance to that of your feed line as it is to get the maximum
efficiency out of your tubes.
