Tom,

No need to be embarrassed.  I had the radio for a month before I figured 
that out.  It can be very confusing managing two transceivers packed into 
one box.  If you want to tie your brain in knots, try figuring out the 
difference between pressing the A or B volume control, and using the Control 
button to control the radio you aren't transmitting on.  At first, I thought 
that was a useless feature, but now I kind of like it.  Its advantage is 
that you can tune around on the "monitor" radio, but if something happens on 
the primary radio, you just grab the mic and start talking.
