Well, perhaps I have the terminology wrong, but I have one for the mobile 
set-up in our family vehicle.

Rather than the PL259 to so239 connection, the antenna screws into a fitting 
that is right on the mag-mount, or the bracket that is mounted to the car.

I'm not sure what the purpose of it is, although I wonder if it might keep 
moisture out more than the pl259 to SO239 connection would do.

I know this is a really lousy description, but if you go to the R and L web 
site, or HRO, and look at the Diamond 770, you can get it in  either the 
PL259 or NMO variety.
