Under the general settings in preferences, their is a checkbox  that if 
unchecked, doesn't check for newer versions of winamp at startup.  What you 
don't know won't hurt you.  I had to go back to winamp 5.13 to avoid slow 
loading problems.  With the box unchecked, it could be the newest version of 
winamp as far as I am concerned.
