Has anyone any experience of travelling in the Philippines?
My 19 year old son from the UK is spending 10 weeks in the Philippines from next week. He will be based with a coral conservation project in Southern Leyte for 6 weeks and then travelling around other islands for a month by himself. He will not really be in any cities. He is healthy and does not react badly to trace gluten. He will be bringing some GF flour (for pancakes) and GF soya sauce. He can eat dairy, eggs, nuts, meat & fish and hot food. He will be looked after at the project, and he knows he'll be eating a lot of rice, but would be grateful for any info especially:
A translation of a simple diet card in Tagalog
Any snacks, chips, chocolate or candy widely available?
Any widely available dishes can he safely order when travelling?
Are rice flour baked good (eg muffins, cookies) available?
Is any beer "low gluten" for him to have occasionally?
Is chilli sauce available and safe?
NB I have also posted this query on a recently founded Philippine Celiac message board: http://gamot.net/SMF/index.php
