Removing one final is not a good idea.  There are better ways to cut down 
power.  It depends on the tranceiver, some will let you turn power back 
with a power control.  Others will let you do the same thing with the mike 
gain on ssb, but with this method, you won't have any alc.  Lord, who 
thinks this stuff up!!!
