Hi John.
I use 2 meters on the TS2000S all of the time. I don't think you'll hurt
it, especially if you don't run it full throttle. The TS2000S has one nice
feature: it remembers what you set the power to on HF, VHF, and UHF. That
makes it practical to set up VHF and UHF on the sub receiver, and HF on the
main receiver, set HF up for 100 watts, and VHF & UHF up for 5 or 10 watts
and it will adjust the power as you switch from the main receiver to the
sub receiver with the left and right arrow keys. It works really really
nicely, that way, and unless you are in a remote area, if you have a decent
antenna, 5 to 10 watts is all you need. I use a Comet GP15 fed with 9913
coax and I work everything within a 50 mile sweep of here--even further
across Lake Ontario as I can hit a couple of the Toronto repeaters from here.
My only misgiving is that I have to choose between the convenience of
having four program function keys on a hand mic, and the superior audio of
a good desk mic. I sure wish Kenwood would make a desk mic with the 4 PF
keys on it--I'd buy it in a heartbeat and toss the hand mic in the
drawer. By the way, the hand mic that I use is not the stock one--I bought
a different one specifically for those PF keys.
I think, though, that once you try setting up the radio as I've described,
you'll fall in love with it. And, for what it is worth, I live inside the
city of Rochester, and I don't hear a peep of intermod on the TS2000S. It
is much tighter than the average 2 meter mobile.
