could not agree more and that receiver was damn near bullet proof! that was the second VHF radio I ever
owned. It could have benefited from a cooling fan though.

Ah, yes. That's my favorite 2 meter rig ever.
It doesn't have a speech option, but you don't really need it with that
particular rig. All you have to do is remember what you have loaded into the
memories. It beeps when tuned through the first memory channel.
I have 2 of them, one bought new by me in 1985, another taken on trade about
7 years ago.
I luckily found the 3 position tone board for my original unit, and added a
CES external PL box to the second one.
At last check, both of my displays were fully working, but that was over a
year ago, so I should check them again.
I keep one at my mom's house, and have the other here as a spare.
I'd pounce on this one if I could really justify owning 3 of them.
If you have a repeater in your area that doesn't need a PL, or if you want a
good rig for simplex work, you would like this old classic.
