Can you hear your dialup modem anyway? I mean, is it muted maybe? I fax that 
way quite a bit is why I asked.

Also, don't worry much about the OE issue, that setting changes randomly 
just to keep you on your toes, I get that question all the time about it 
changing that sort by setting.
