Rhonda, Kathy and Phil,

Catch all three of you in one mail :).

Rhonda. It is reassuring when these things occur. You very much reminded me
to "ask" and those who "ask" will receive but if one doesn't seek
searchingly why look for answers. Maybe I assume God knows my heart and so
sometimes rely on that as a form of "praying without ceasing" but if we
took the same method of ignoring or assumptions and never expressed our
thoughts and feelings with those we love they'd never have the satisfaction
of hearing us, and sharing the communications. Such is with God I'm
supposing. I've approached the music field very cautiously, very
skeptically, and I feel like it is time to stop dangling the feet over the
dock waters and slip in some and be prepared to swim as needed and adjust
as needed and rely on God to help me. There are several ways to earn a
living in music/writing and finding that niche for me is what I'll look to
be shown to me.

Kathy. Are you referring to the Norwegian Bachelor Farmer? The one on the
packet of buttermilk biscuits? I use to listen to Gary and gang a lot,
actually I listen on-line when I do mostly, I really like the old time
format and etc. and you are probably right, they won't say much. I guess if
they ask me back next year to do music for them is thanks enough, and if
not, havin' asked me back once before is thanks enough really. And for the
record, it is deer season wafting upon us soon so the trout are out,
and they're out dar lookin' fer dah tirty point buck yah dat's right, dah
tirdty pointer ya know. I appreciate the encouraging words. I have to
admit I've played and sung in front of hundreds and hundreds of folks at
one time before in the church setting, doing songs someone else wrote and
being covered by other band members and singers, and if you mess up, nho
one knows or cares becuase they are worshipping not listening to a concert
performance, it is quite another thing when it is just you, the guitar and
songs you've written. A year ago when I went to the first song circle, I
went with my five songs I wrote over the past years, and was so ratteld, I
made it through maybe one without messing up, and one for sure if not two
where I just stopped because I was hacking it up so bad it was pointless to
continue. I just stopped, turned beat red, apologized for forgetting the
words or whatever, words were my typical thing to forget. I dreaded going
there because I figured I'd just continue to make a fool of myself, Pride?
Perhaps, but one wants others to find value in what we do, and stepping up
to the pulpit as it were, and struggling with a frog in the throat for five
minutes straight, have a coughing fit with no water just smirking faces
looking at you, or forgetting your reading glasses and can't make out the
notes and so wing it, can be unnerving. but I forced myself to go because I
knew it was good experience to do in front of other players and especially
other writers. I now look forward to it because it is just a lot of fun to
participate and I could go on for hours and love to hear what others bring
to the circle of songs. I recently heard the ultimate cowboy definition of
courage or guts...

"Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway" -- John Wayne

With me I'm not sure if it is guts/courage or stupidity but stupidity with
persistence might reap the same result if I can convince myself I'm the
only one who sees it as such :).

Brad

up anyway".

Phil. Indeed far out. Like I can dig it. Out of sight groovy uptight man.

All in all a small step towards hopefully a better thing. I operate on the
principle of "Give people more than what they paid for" whether it be a
song for them, or as the farmer's market, play for an hour longer because
people were still milling around buying stuff, or as in the AppleFest play
longer because my amp broke and I did the first 45 mins acoustically and I
wanted to make sure the owner got what he paid for and make sure he knew it
too as a business principle. That mentality has proven itself fruitful in
our family roofing business all those years and today as well in my own.

Again thanks for the prayers. Now... to deliver what ever he is looking
for :). Yikes! haha

Brad
