As I recall, a long box was put on my bed on Friday, December 28. I
wondered what it was, but decided to wait till I got back from a weekend
vacation. On Monday afternoon, New Years Eve, I opened it to find a Braille
book. It was the user manual for the CI system! I spent some time reading
it on New Years Day, and learned a little more about how to use the gadgets.
Every once in awhile I remember that I have to be sure and bring the box of
stuff to Jenna's office! I fear I will forget. Any suggestions on how to
cue myself, especially if you're blind?
Another thing that I think is really cool is that the mother and son Judy
and I met at Dr. Beck's office told me that her son did not get a koala
because the hospital ran out of them. I told her that, being as how I don't
like to keep things around that just sit there and look pretty, I'd like to
give mine to her. She gladly accepted, saying that it would be educational
for those who care for her son now, and the sooner the better. So I plan to
take it, along with the big box, to Jenna on the 7th, so that the family can
pick it up on the 17th, the day for the baby's activation, and my 3rd
mapping session afterwards. I hope we'll see them again, and learn how he
reacted to his new sense!
Five more days and counting...
