List members,
Just found out I have 'inconclusive' (very low positive?) levels of
sjogren's syndrome antibodies (SS-A and SS-B). No syndrome symptoms yet,
but these Aabs.
Back in 2003-4 I began on thyroid replacement, because my TSH was rising to
3.4 and up. I was, indeed going a little hypothyroid. My endocrinologist
felt it was time to begin treatment. He has run Hashimoto's antibodies
numerous times, and they are always negative.
I did see in one source, a statement to the effect that SS antibodies can
infiltrate the thyroid gland, causing eventual hypothyroidism. Has anyone
heard of this cause? (no hashi antibodies, but sjogren's?) Further, a
specialist tells me, well, the treatment would be the same
regardless--replacement. Are there any ramifications or implications
regarding the source of antibody formation? (further damage to the gland,
etc.?)
Best regards & thanks for your input,
Holly
