Hi John;
That explains it.  I tried it again last night when there were some stations 
on the air and it seemed to work.  I suspect it was working the first time 
but since nobody was on it didn't look like the frequency changed.

You hold it for a second or so, it will scan butI think the CW read out
won't change until it finds a signal to stop on. Just listen for the long
beep.
