Hi;
I don't know what I did differently but tried it again last night and it 
scanned just like it should.
Can't seem to hit nearly as many repeaters from the new qth with the hand 
held so I guess I may have to go antenna shopping.

don't you have to press and hold it for a second to start scan?
I thought that key changes from FM, to AM and Wide FM if you just press it
momentarily.
try pressing and holding for a second and see if that starts the scan up.
