Eric,

The name of Simon Brown rings a bell as he is the author of Ham Radio 
Deluxe.  I just did a little searching and found that HRD  was Simon's 
follow up to the FT-817 Commander.   The Commander only  worked for the 
FT-817, while HRD  does a multitude of rigs and has  many functions.  Have 
you looked at HRD?  Or is there some reason you need the other program.  HRD 
is always being updated, while the other program isn't going anywhere.   i 
did download Commander myself just to see if I had any better luck than  you 
did, but no dice.
