ah hadn't considered that I'd just want to insure there wasn't any possibility of anything getting into 
either side which is why I suggested the interface box.

From the radio's output to the line in on the sound card you don't need
anything like that. I use a straight cable from the external speaker jack on
my radio to the line in on my computer's sound card for PSK31 and remote
controlling the radio, for the audio side of it. I'd never do that with the
mic input to the line out on the sound card, but the other way isn't a
problem.
