Hi, Ed.
Well, let me explain it to you this way:
I probably won't be using the TS480 while truly mobile. The reason is that
I can't get my screw-driver antenna on the back of the RV as high as it
needs to be above the roof line to travel safely and keep things legal.
Therefore, I will be using the TS480 only when camping and able to use shore
power.
I checked with my RV mechanic at the dealer where we bought the motor home
about running the TS480 off battery power. He is a ham, and he indicated to
me that the connections to my batteries are far enough away from where I'd
have the rig that I'd have to run quite a cable to get from the battery
source to the rig. He warned me that introducing more cable into the system
like that might create potential for more RFI.
I don't know how accurate or true that is, but this is what he told me.
I don't know if this helps explain things or not, so if you have other
thoughts, please let me know.
