    Thank you all.  It turned out to be the cables.  I had 2 sets and 
thought I was using the better of the two.  Ha!  Swapped cables and all is 
well.

    I did check to make sure I ddint plug into video which is right on top 
of the audio jacks.

    Now I need an entertainment center so I can make it nice and have room 
for a multi cd changer I want to get someday.
