Hi:
I believe the ft1000 and most popular yaesu rigs can be controlled via Ham
radio deluxe.
Ham radio deluxe has a voice output option built in which will allow you to
have it tell you the frequency, mode, and S meter reading. As you may know,
the initial set up of the radio is very much visually involved and with no
speech chip, and limited accessibility issues within ham radio deluxe, there
may be some assistance required to get things initially set up.
However, because many of the major operator features are accessed from the
front pannel of the rig, you should be alright as long as HRD will provide you
with S meter, frequency and mode information. The ft1000 mark 5 really is a
great rig in all respects. Of course, they are going to become a little more
availible on the used market due to the recent release of the ft2000.
If HRD isn't an option, there is some DOS software which will work for you....I
believe Tim from this list, over in Northern Ireland, can help with some
questions as he uses an ft1000 very successfully...as well as many blind hams.
There seems to be a bit of hatred towards any yaesu product good or bad on this
list.
