Hi, again everyone.

With my xyl's sighted assistance, I have now figured out that to get to the 
"preferences" under winamp, you have to "right click" to get to the context 
menu.  I did this, and made the changes Howard suggested, including 
unchecking the update notification box, so hopefully, I won't have my 
problem again.
