As for cables, I make a masking tape flag, and affix a dymo Braille label to the 
masking tape flag.  I use this a lot for my surround system but also for coaxial 
cable.

I've also started using the same technique for labeling pos and negative leads 
of power cables since sometimes sticking the ends of dymotape together often 
splits, as Tom pointed out.
