I had a 1948 vintage Magnavox HI-FI with 2 6l6 tubes feeding two
electrostatic speakers. Wow what sound and yes the metal tubes did run
very hot! I had removed the radio from the wooden case due to a size
issue for moving so put the thing on a top shelf, but occasionally my
cat would try to curl up around the warm radio but soon leave due to the
hot tubes.

they run hotter then the glass 6l6's?
Yes, that I can see with the more robust metal housing, but i didn't
think the 6l6 family was rated for much over about 725 volts?
