Hi,
I have a good one for you!
I recently installed an ide hard drive in an External enclosure. It runs fine and shows up as an additional drive in My Computer and as a Mass storage device in Device Manager
on all my other PCs except for my HP Media Center model m1095c with XP desktop. In this PC it shows up as a USB 2.0 ide Bridge and asks me to install a driver! That is fruitless as there is no driver to install. It should run as it does on the other pc's as a Plug and play device. and show up as a mass storage device in Device manager.
I feel that maybe my registry is the problem.
I used a registry cleaner a couple weeks ago and I think that is when the problem began. I can take the drive out of the enclosure and use an usb / ide cable to connect it to the HP pc and it works fine and shows up in My Computer as another drive and in Device manager as a Mass storage device.
I checked the registry in the pc's that it operates on with no problems and there seems to be additional entries in the registry for the drive.
I am about intermediate level computer wise but not to the point where I want to be messing with the Registry and really cause problems!
I hope someone out there has some ideas in how to cure this problem without me doing a Recovery with my disc's.
The computer runs fine with no problems other than this annoying glitch.
I have now done a lot of research on these registry cleaners and it is too late, the horse is all ready out of the barn, so it seems!
Much thanks in advance to the person who has an answer to this. If more info is need please ask.
Thanks
Dummy- Bill
