Don't know if this is a question for this list or not, ie: if anyone here
has the answer. However, since I can't think of any place else to ask here
it is. On a genealogy lists someone posted excerpts from a newspaper in
MO, I think, late 1800's. Anyway one of the articles was a list of people
paid by the county for various work done, one fella "repaired hematite
road" and was paid $100.00 to do this. Question, what is/was hematite?
That seemed to be a lot of money in those days, even for road repair. Ruth
PS: I hope it wasn't related to lime cement or whatever. I'd hate to
start that war all over again.
