Hi List,

I wonder if anyone has ever tried constructing a 962 foot telescoping
antenna--or for that matter a plus 900 foot loop stick of some sort <g>!

Not much you can do to improve on a telescoping antenna. Except maybe try
adding a rf ground cut 31 inches long. You have to find something to ground
to. If the antenna is to short for the freq try adding enough wire to get
to the right length. You could use an alligator clip with some stiff wire
to lengthen the antenna, or try a capacitive hat. Maybe a large ball of
aluminum rolled up into a ball over the tip of the antenna. It probably
wont help reception much, but will impress anyone who sees it. <smile> Is
the antenna attached to the tuner or is it the rabbit ears that connect with
coax?

If this radio has an external connection, then a simple dipole is almost
always an improvement over a whip simply because you have more antenna and
it can usually be positioned in a better location and of course higher is
better. If you can get the antenna outside that helps too.

Ken;

What I'd like to know is how can you improve the reception of an fm =
telescopic antenna?

I have the Sangean HDR1 and the fm reception needs to be improved.
