The following is a fairly comprehensive numbering system for the preservation
industry, borrowed from an advertising flyer. It appears to have close
comformity with the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) MasterSpec
numbering system. The CSI numbering system is used extensively by all
construction product manufacturers on their Spec Data sheets, and forms the
backbone of the outlines of most contract specifications, as well as conforms
to the outlines of the cost estimating data books. If the preservation
industry, including the trades, are to coordinate with the rest of the world
respecting *documentation* then it makes sense to familiarize ourselves with
the categories that the non-preservation construction industry will view us
from. The system can also be used as a check-off list to make sure all
possible interests in preservation are included in any event programs.
