Another method is to use a 45 degree triangle. Back off from
the tree untill when sighting up the 45
degree angle yousee the top of the tree. Measure how far you
are from the tree and add whatever
the distance from the ground to the triangle was when you
measureed. If you held the triangle at
about eye level (call it 5 feet) and you are 60 feet from
the tree when you see the top up the 45 then
the tree is approx 65 feet tall
