Hi,
I have had to replace a lot of corroded coax connectors over the years and
they included both soldered and crimpt ones that were outside. I finally
figured out that the problem was moisture getting in to the connector and
then in to the coax itself. A local ham gave me a great coax connector idea
over 30 years ago and I haven't had a connector fail since then.. What he
did and I've done since then is to prepare the coax as you would for a
normal installation. Just behind the point where the outer covering of the
coax was removed, wrap electrical tape counter clockwise around the outer
covering until the diameter of the taped coax fits snugly into the
connector. Then fold the braid over the tape and screw the coax into the
connector, just like you would screw in a pl259 adaptor in to a connector.
Once the coax tightens, I then solder the center pin and like I said before,
a connector hasn't failed me yet.

Hi Tom,
I use a ratcheting crimper from the RF Connection:
http://www.therfc.com/
The connectors are 2 piece. There is a ferrule and the main body of the
connector which has the barrel, the knurled part you screw onto the
so-239 attached.
Slip the ferrule onto the cable and prep the cable end. Slide the main
connector body over the center insulator and under the braid. Crimp or
preferably solder the center pin. Slide the ferrule over the braid. Put the
ferrule in the crimper jaws and squeeze a few times till it releases. it
makes a 6 sided crimp.
