Here you go.  Here's the real dope:

Place your speakerws face-to-face; yes, right up against each other 
together.  Put on a good monorale recording.  If the speakers are out of 
phase, the sound will almost cancel and you'll not hear much at all. 
Reverse the connections to one speaker.  The sounds will reinforce and will 
be louder.  the speakers are in phase.
