Thanks Brad I did that yesterday and converted COM5 to COM2 successfully. I
tried to convert it to COM3 and COM6 to COM4, however when I tried to
reassign I got an error message saying COM3 and 4 were in use and changing
the assignment could cause address errors. Since I only needed 1 additional
COM port I didn't mess with it, but I would like to reassign COM6 (I/O
board) IF I can be sure calling it COM3 won't cause any problems. The COM3
& 4 designations arose from the original insertion of the I/O card which was
subsequently moved to another slot. In the device manager I don't see any
reference to COM3 & 4 so I'm guessing it's in the registry somewhere and I
won't get into trouble redefining COM6 as COM3 BUT I need to have things
running for the Lyrid meteor shower this weekend and didn't want to get into
problems now that I have COM1 and COM2 running.
Thanks,
Bob
Bob,
Your Menu path for XP:
Right Mouse>My Computer>Properties> -->Hardware -->Device Manager
-->Ports (Com & LPT)
Right Mouse>->Communications Port (Com 5) Right Mouse>"Properties"
Port Settings->"Advanced" "COM Port Number"(Select Port Number you
need)
OK->OK->Exit->Exit
I hope that makes sense to you. Good luck!
