My husband has refractory celiac disease. Because of this we have had
to spend more time in several hospitals . We have had to engage with
the various components of the health care system.
Many of our experiences have been less than satisfactory . When I
tried to find some way of dealing with issues like incomplete and
erroneous discharge notes, problems getting IV nurses for home
care ( because my town was not covered by the services due to the
catchment area we live in.) I called the Department of Public . It
seemed that none of their many departments covered the areas I
wanted to address. After many calls someone suggested I call Health
Care for All. This is an advocacy group working to provide a forum
for those impacted by health quality issues so they can have a
voice in the health care system. . They have an Advisory Board with
members who have excellent knowledge and experience and a Consume
Health Quality Council made up of members who have
been personally impacted. I contacted them and was very impressed.
They have been working the health care quality Bill which is
Massachusetts Senate 1277, " An Act Promoting HealthCare
Transparency and Consumer and Provider Partnerships."
I would encourage Massachusetts voters to help support this bill.
In Massachusetts, you can find more about this organization at http://
www.hcfama.org
You can call them at 617-725-7279. You may want to speak to James
Madden, Consumer Health Quality Organizer he is at 617-2752940
I found by doing a search that ---California , Maryland, Oregon and
Texas have listings under Health Care for All. Thus this may be a
national movement.
I hope that this information is useful.
