In the "for what it's worth" department, there are plenty of software manufacturers that are having trouble keeping up with Vista and Microsoft apps, not just screenreader companies. Most any third-party DVD/CD writing software that worked in XP won't work in Vista. Other software, like the VoIP app SKYPE, may want to run in a less-graphical mode (Windows Aero turned off.) My bank card software won't work at all. ("Good", says the XYL, "No more ham radios ordered online!")

One curious thing was the remote control software logmein (log me in) would run but you can't find the "did you really want to run this program" dialog boxes when operating remotely and hence you get stuck. The dialogs appear on the home screen of the controlled computer. Weird. You get rig of the problem by lowering security and turning off the aggravating UAP (user account protection).

Happily, Nuance brought out a new Vista capable version of Naturally Speaking (9.5) available for free download to users of version 9.

Ham Radio Deluxe works great in Vista. Woohoo!

Pat

    Anthony:

Well, I'm not going to be doing any switching soon, for reasons that I noted
in earlier e-mails. ... It just really bothers me that the Jaws upgrades
don't seem to be keeping up with the latest Microsoft developments. ...
Isn't that what we're paying all this money for?

I still haven't heard from the Jaws technical support folks yet.

Will see what they say.
