Subject: braille question

I am back in Kansas for a visit--return to Vegas tomorrow. I found my
mom's slate and styless and brailled a deck of cards yesterday. Some of
the dots seemed to ppunch clear through the card, more of a hole than a
dot, not sure how else to describe it. These are hard to read. Is this
caused by the styless beeing to sharp? too dull? Any suggestions?
These are just standard playing cards.
