I recently purchased a substantial number of components to rebuild my PC
into a
233MMX. I was moving floppies, tape backup drive, hard drive, and other
components from an old motherboard/case to a new set. After upgrading many
systems, I considered myself familiar with all the unfortunate possibilities.
However, I neglected to carefully check the power cable leading to my 3.5-inch
floppy. It was off by one pin (that is, the pins and sockets were
misaligned). I was told by the local vendor that the power supply can detect
such a situation on a line and will not power up (a safeguard?). A quick
movement of the connector and the system booted properly.
