How old is your daughter? A friend of mine  when she was in her early 
twenties, wore brazes for a year and a half or so after having a 
molar pulled on each side to make room for the other teeth. her jaw 
was too small too to accommodate all her teeth.In my friend's case, 
the braces needed to be tighted about every 10 days to pull the other 
teeth into place properly but that was nowhere near the torture you 
describe and she ended up with really beautiful straight teetth.
