Hello,
I sold a Shuttle Motherboard and AMD K6-266. The customer replaced his
old MB and processor. He lelt everything in place and just hooked up the
cables to the new MB. He has a Seagate 1.7GB hard drive as master and a
850MB as the slave. The BIOS detected both hard drives and everything is
connected right. But, when the computer boots up he gets the DISK BOOT
FAILURE message.
I went and checked the MB and I did the following things:
I took a bootable hard drive and was able to boot up the computer so the MB
is working fine
I booted from a floppy drive and typed SYS C: to transfer the system files
to the HD
I ran FDISK and the hard drive showed no partitions on the HD
FDISK would not make a partition on the HD, it would freeze up and I would
have to reboot. I disabled the slave drive and tried this with just the
master drive installed. Same thing.
FDISK showed the slave as drive C: and the 850 MB partition
I was able to access the 1.7GB drive and see the files and directories on
it, including COMMAND.COM
I have tried everything I can think of except re-formating and loosing all
the data (I am trying to keep from having to do that) . What am I missing??
Thanks for the help
