John,
One of the things I remember he accomplished was the first Restoration
Carpenter designation by ??? Federal level I believe. He should be on
Bullamanka.
Best,
Leland

Subject: [BP] ASTM standards on building preservation
I know that Philip Marshall was on an ASTM committee that was working on
standards for architectural preservation, perhaps that was as long ago
as the 1990s. I never did learn the results of that work. I think I once
tried to get them, but it was still in draft, or there was a cost way
beyond my budget, perhaps it was hundreds of dollars. Why is this ASTM
info not a click away on the internet, or at my local library, or here
on my desk, or already inside my head?
I'm always ready and willing to learn, but it becomes frustrating when
the academic and professional communities seem hell bent on obfuscation
of information. Oh yoohoo, looky here at this shiny little nugget, oh
wait, you can't have that! For crying out loud, if I (in a one-person
business can find a way work all day and stay up past midnight writing
articles to share what I know) why can't they make it easier to get
their stuff out? For the past three decades I've delighted in sitting on
the ridge of the great divide between the lands of Practical and
Intellectual, tossing little nuggets of knowledge back and forth. As I
now find myself approaching my sixth decade and realizing that I might
have only one or two decades left there may be better things to do.
