Colin, I think this is a great idea if you can come up with something that's convenient to use. I bought a pair of cheap FRS radios
that came with an ear bud and little in-line mic and tiny ptt. The FRS radios are Cobra and the external speaker/mic work with the
T90. I thought of adapting this to work with a better headset but it would take some major cutting and splicing.
Do your PC-130's get power from the PC? I'm not sure the mic would need power, but you would need to add a ptt and of course the
headphones would need to be wired in parallel so you could hear the audio in both ears.
I would really like to try a headset on my V7. My design would use an external box with a built-in ptt. The audio would come from
the two speaker outputs on the back. I prefer binaural audio so I would mix the audio in the box and the audio level for each band
could still be controlled from the radio. Now imagine this, the external box will be an old gutted out mouse. Maybe the three
mouse buttons could be used as PF keys. The ptt would be in the place of the mouse ball (no wise cracks now <g>) and you would
transmit by letting the weight of your hand depress the ptt, or you could have a thumb operated ptt on the side. You might be able
to use a Y adapter connected to the mic modular connection so that the headset/controller could be in parallel with the hand mic.

Subject: headsets for ht's
Something i have thought of doing is using a good quality PC headset, such
as the one i have, senheiser pc130, and using it on the ic t90a.
I would have to built a small power pack to supply voltage to the microphone
cartridge in the headset, but as far as i can tell, the impedance match
should be very close.
I wonder what the collective opinions are regarding this kind of setup are
on the list?
I suspect the microphone cartridge wouldn't have enough output to drive the
radio's mike amp, but perhaps an extra tripple A battery or extra watch
battery in the power pack would solve that issue.
I could likely use 1.5V watch batteries, since the headset microphone
shouldn't require much current to operate for long periods of time, and it
really only requires 1.6V or so to work. So, a pair of small batteries in
series should supply around 3V, plenty of voltage to keep the mike hot.
