Thanks Steve for the info. Normally, I get a sighted person to do this
because I was told that no other program should be running when this is
done. If JAWS doesn't effect the process or the process doesn't interfere
with JAWS I can do this myself.

Gary,
If you turn it off, you won't be able to tell what's happening. However,
you should shut down as many other programs as possible because some
programs write to your hard drive, and that will slow down the
defragmentation process.
