Richard,

Don't panic yet.  I'd get more than 1 report before doing anything drastic. 
Here are a few things you can try:  Be sure all coax connectors are tight 
from the back of the rig to the antenna.  Meters, switches, tuners,  check 
them all.

Do you have more than 1 mic?  Try a second mic and see if reports are 
better.

It's been so long since I used my  430, I forget if it has a speech 
compressor.I'm pretty sure it does.  Be sure it's off.    Also be sure the 
mic gain isn't too high.  Crank it down and get a report at a lower power 
level.


Does your station have an RF ground? And is your antenna properly tuned?


If the ps-430 is really bad, you can just remove the cable  from it and put 
it on the Astron supply.


Just the first of many headaches in this hobby, but it's well worth it.
