Part of the hobby is experimentation.  Try something and see if it works, 
try something else and see if it works better.  For the most part, antennas 
don't like to be close to metal.

There are a lot of shortened wire antennas that can be bent to fit  small 
lots for 160.

If you still have the HF 6V vertical, Butternut has a kit to  put it  on 
160.  Problem is, it costs $165.  It's the TBR-160-S.  It's a large coil and

capacitor and mounts at the bottom of the vertical with 2 clamps.  Keep an 
eye for a used one.  I bought a used HF 6V with 160 kit and kits for 12 and 
17 meters for a total of $60.  This was 10 years ago, but  perhaps you can 
find one for a cheap price.
